Abstract

The Center for Blobal Communications, International University of Japan, has constructed and operated the Online Resource Locator(OReL), which is an Internet directory of WWW resources. The directory, in order to provide easy access to quality information, stores in database the metadata of various scientific literature which are scattered on the WWW. The database is based on the Dublin Core metadata set. In OReL, reference between metadata and the original data is made according to the external reference model, which is given independently of the authors and administrators of the original data. In constructing OReL, excellent operation that full-text serach services cannot achieve is done by way of finding implicit metadata which is inherent but not represented in contexts.
