Molecular microprobe optics laser examiner (MOLE) was applied for the identification of components in environmental particulates. Operation conditions were chosen as follows; Ar ion laser (514.5nm), (200400)mW, slit width (300600)μm, Δν= (1001700)cm-1. Highway tunnel dust taken from a ventillation duct at Hayabusa, Tokyo, was roasted for several minutes at about 500°C for preventing its fluorescence and analysed on a glass plate. α-SiO2, glassy silica, calcite and (Ca, Mg)CO3 were identified, and diaspore and carboneous components were suggested their existence. Roasted chromite dust was synthesized with chromite are powder, Na2CO3 and CaCO3 (12:9:5), which were roasted at about 500°C on an iron plate for an hour, ground to under 100 mesh and were served as a sample. From particles smaller than 20μm in size, Na2CrO4, CaCrO4 and (Na2, Ca)CO3 were identified together with the original components. These components were dispersed finely smaller than 1μm on particles through the observation of an imagemode pictures.
