Abstract

In natural language texts, temporal relations among events are expressed by various linguistic clues. In this paper, we propose method to extract temporal relation among events, which is composed of three processes: (1)translating events from natural language text to formal representation, (2)determining temporal relation among events using a framework of Event Calculus, which integrates linguistic information, and the common sense of general knowledge and domain knowledge, and (3)deciding the absolute time of each event, Since domain knowledge is separated from general one, we can determine temporal relation among events concerning phrase of a various field just by changeing the domain knowledge. Using this method, we extracted temporal relations among events from texts about an atomic power plant. The result shows the usefulness of the method.
