Abstract

Cool summer damage of rice was caused by cool summer of 1993 in the northern part of Japan. At Mutsu City in Aomori Prefecture, monthly mean temperature in July and August were 16.4℃ and 19.1℃ respectively, which were 3.1,2.6 lower than monthly normals. Sunshine hours at Mutsu City was 65~67% of normals. Mean rice yield of Aomori Prefecture was 159kg/10a, yield index was 28. In particular, rice yield was zero at Shimokita and Kamikita agricultural regions feced the Pacific Coast by Yamase bring unusual temperature. But the rice yield at Tsugaru region faced the Sea of Japan was comparatively high yield. The rice damage by cool summer of 1993 exceeded 77.2 billion yen in Aomori Prefecture.
