抄録

Suwanose-jima volcano is located at the center of Tokara islands, about 200 km southwest of Kyushu. The volcanic island is composed of four stratovolcanoes, Tondachi-dake, Suzaki, On-take and Negami-dake volcanoes. Higashi-yame and Makko-dai volcanoes are independent volcanic hills. The volcanic activity in the Suwanose-jima volcanic island is summarized as follows ; [figure] The historic eruptions of On-take volcano were recorded in 1813-1814 (Bunka era) and 1884-1885 (Meiji era). At some time between the two recorded eruptions, mudflow occurred in Sakuchi area. The summit of On-take volcano is now active and the recent activity is strombolian type of eruption.
