Abstract

In rodents, the fetus that develop in utero between two males is described as 2M and that develop between two female is described as 2F. It was reported that the adult 2M rats exhibited much more aggression and sexual behavior than the adult 2F rats. The phenomenon was considered that testosterone from neighbouring fetus by placenta affected fetus brain development. In this study, brain sections of adult 2M and 2F rats including sexually dimorphic nucleus (SDN) of the preoptic area that modulate sexual behavior or gonad were analyzed by means of Nissl staining and immunohistochemistry of calbindin. We found that SDN of 2M rats are bigger than that of 2F. These results suggest that intrauterine position influence sexual behavior by modifying the structure of sexually dimorphic nucleus.
