Abstract
The cerebral magnetic field of the auditory steady-state response (SSR) to binaural beat (BB) was recorded in healthy humans. The source strength waveform of the dipoles in auditory cortex was adopted to analyze periodicity of cerebral electrical activities which were synchronized with subjective auditory oscillations of BB. When two kinds of pure tones with slight difference of frequencies (f1 and f2) elicit BB, interaural phase disparity (IPD) has continuous and periodical oscillation with the frequency of f1-f2. In case of slow BB (4Hz and 6.66Hz), the source strength waveform showed apparent fluctuations synchronized with IPD. Such a synchronization between die source strength waveform and BB was not evident in rapid BB (8Hz,16Hz,and20Hz).
