The objective of this study was to determine experimentally whether a characteristic curve obtained in a one-side emulsifier photo acceptance system is dependent on radiation quality. Experiments focusing on the following three points were carried out to examine the direct effect of x-rays on the direct sensitization of silver halide in film: 1)Relation between x-ray energy and a sensitization factor. 2)Effect of change in a sensitization factor on a characteristic curve. 3)Comparison of characteristic curve forms. X-ray tube voltage was set in a range from 28 kV (mammography) to 80 kV (general imaging). Although it has generally been considered that the dependence of a characteristic curve on radiation quality is small enough to be neglected, a statistically significant difference was observed in the foot and shoulder regions by comparing characteristic curves of 28 kV and 80 kV. The change in the form of the characteristic curve in the foot region was small, however. Thus, it was revealed that it can be applied to effective light exposure transformation such as the modulation transfer function in the characteristic curve obtained by x-ray energy in the general imaging region. A test of the significance of differences was carried out to compare characteristic curve forms, and the effectiveness of the test results are discussed.
