Phaseolus aureus seeds were separated into three parts: hulls, cotyledons and hypocotyls. After the polysaccharides in each part had been fractionated by successive extraction with water, 0.25% ammonium oxalate-oxalic acid, 4% KOH and 24% KOH, the xyloglucan content in each fraction was determined by Kooiman's method for quantitative analysis of amyloid coupled with cellulase treatment. In each part, most of the xyloglucans were localized in the 24% KOH extracts and moreover, these xyloglucans from the three seed parts had almost identical properties, which agreed well with those of xyloglucans from the cell walls of etiolated bean hypocotyls.
