- Motif and Meanings of Cloth Ornaments in the Novel of "The Dream of Red Chamber"
抄録
In the Q'ing dynasty, the Man ethnic was superior to Han ethnic, and became a ruler of China.The authors analyse the characteristic of motifs and meanings of the nobles' cloth ornaments in this dynasty expressed by the novel of "The Dream of the Red Chamber" and attempt to classify the symbolic order of the nobles of Han. The result can be outlined as follows : 1)The cloth ornaments for both male and female became similar in Q'ing dynasty. 2)The use of border decoration influenced from the nomadic Man ethnic became popular. 3)This dynasty saw the emergece stylistic change in decoration, from realistic to abstracts. The decorative styles of Han previously derived from Confucious thinking was altered by the styles of Man's nobles.
