Abstract

Activities of the ITER Physics R&D expert groups of "Confinement and Transport" and of "Confinement Database and Modelling" are introduced. Confinement performance required for ITER is reviewed, then the energy confinement prediction of the ELMy H-mode in ITER is described on the basis of the H-mode confinement database. Recent results of ρ * scaling experiments are demonstrated. The prediction of the threshold power for H-mode transition in ITER is also described on the basis of the H-mode power threshold database. Transport models for ITER confinement prediction and results of model validation by using the profile database are shown.
