Abstract

Activity of the ITER physics R&D expert group on disruption, plasma control, and MHD is briefly reviewed. Disruption scenarios, chracteristics of the vertical plasma movement, and the halo current have been clarified. Disruption ameliolation, measurements of the disruption process, and disruption modelling are now under going. Limitation of the normalized beta, effect of the sawtooth on the energy confinement, beta limit improvement by toroidal plasma rotation, and avoidance of error field instability are now investigated to support ITER design. Plasma control is planned to be discussed in the next expert meeting at JAERl-Naka.
