Abstract

The vacuum pumping system of a large magnetic fusion device requires a high pumping speed to pump down to the background pressure between plasma discharges, and to exhaust the residual gas to an ultra high vacuum. The system ought to be designed under considerations of the magnetic field and the plasma-surface interaction. We here describe the vacuum pumping system of the JAERI tokamak, JT-60. The system consists of the main pumps of the turbomolecular pump and the liquid nitrogen trap. Now the modification of the system is planned against the superannuation.
