Abstract

Subcritical damages such as fatigue cracks and corrosion do not immediately cause a loss of serviceability or serious disaster such as oil spill from tankers. However, the maintenance of ship structures is very important to avoid such casualties. To overcome this problem, a concept of an information system for structural integrity of ships has been proposed by the authors1)2). For the practical development of such a proposed system, it is necessary to establish the method by which enormous ship structural data can be efficiently imported into the system. In this paper, the data exchange method of the three-dimensional hull structural information by using STEP technologies has been studied. Secondly, a proto-type system for evaluation of corrosion damages has been developed, by which it is possible to refer the history of the corrosion damages of a certain ship and to compare the detected damages with those of the other same type ships. Moreover, the method of supporting the inspection based on the data-model for the knowledge of the inspection determined by classification societies is proposed.
