Hydroxyapatite (HAP)-glass-titanium composites were soaked for 60 days in 0.001 N HCl solution (pH=2.8), distilled water (pH=5.8), 0.01% ammonia solution (pH=10.6), and simulated body fluid (SBF; pH=7.1). The composites demonstrated a large weight loss and a large Ca dissolution in HCl solution, whereas Na and K dissolution was negligible. After soaking in the SBF, the weight loss from the HAP-glass-composite and the glass specimens was small, and then the surface of each composite after immersion was covered by a precipitate of HAP from the SBF.
