A high contrast bright-field lattice imaging method in high resolution transmission electron microscopy and its application to the observation of microcrystalline domains in a partially decomposed amorphous Fe84B16 alloy are described. A selection of an optimum defocus value was found to be necessary in obtaining dimensional information of the microcrystalline domains by lattice imaging. It is concluded that bcc-like microcrystals of Fe with a size of about 1 nm were already formed in an as-quenched Fe84B16 alloy and they gradually grew up to a size of about 2 nm on a low temperature annealing.
