Objective: To assess the association of PIH in Japanese population with the G894T, and T(-786)C polymorphisms of the eNOS gene. Methods: The subjects examined were Japanese populations consisting of 113 PIH patients, 130 age and gestational weeks matched normo- tensive pregnant control subjects. The both polymorphisms were genotyped using poly- merase chain reaction -restriction fragment length polymorphism method. Results: No significant differences in the frequency of the T894 allele (0.13 vs 0.10, p=0.09), C(-786) allele (0.09 vs 0.09, p=0.91) were observed between PIH patients and pregnant controls. Also in the frequency of all these variant alleles between PIH patients and controls no significant differences were observed. Conclusion: This results suggest that the contribu- tion of these variants of the eNOS gene to the occurence of PIH is not likely.
