Abstract

The present paper introduces several studies on rates of weathering and/or erosion based on landform material science : (1) growth rates of tafoni, (2) recession rates of waterfalls, and (3) a field experiment of weathering rates of rock tablets. It is emphasized from these studies that measurements of rock properties, especially strength of rocks, are crucial to understand the formation and change of landforms in process geomorphology. The present paper also points out that the investigation using the method of in situ cosmogenic nuclides analysis is useful to esitimate paleoerosion rates and time scales of erosional processes.
