Abstract

The objective of this paper is to study how the plasticity of the base structure influences the response of the 300-span dome with seismic isolation system when it is subjected to horizontal earthquakes, and to find out the optimum amount of damper, and if the simple prediction method based on the energy theory could be applied to this system. From the results of dynamic response analyses, it is confirmed that the response of the dome can be reduced independent of the plasticity of the base structure, and the optimum amount of damper is close to a common building having the whole weight of this system, and that the simple prediction method can be applied to this system.
