Abstract

A test program was conducted on bolted steel column base connections. In the suggested column base connection, a steel wide flange foundation beam is used instead of a conventional reinforced concrete foundation beam and is connected to the steel column by T-stubs and high strength bolts. The plastification is expected to develop only in the column end under severe cyclic load. A total of six full-scale soecimens were tested in this research. From the test results. the validity of estimation of strength and stiffness for the presented connection is confirmed. The new type of column base connection shows better ductility and energy dissipation capacity as conmpared with the conventional column base plate connection.
