NC mouse dermatitis as a model for human atopic dermatitis

Abstract
NC mice develop atopic dermatitis (AD)-like skin lesion with IgE hyperproduction when bred in conventional environment. It is known as NC dermatitis and thought to be a model for human AD. Of interest is that the experimental infestation of Myobia musculi or Myocoptes musculinus induces dermatitis in NC mice, which is clinically and pathologically similar to NC dermatitis. In addition, those mice show elevated serum IgE level, which is specific to mite antigens. The eradication of mites reduces serum IgE level and improves the dermatitis, suggesting that mite antigen is one of factors regulating the onset of AD-like skin lesion in NC mice. The further detailed investigation of the relationship of mite antigen with NC dermatitis will contribute to the elucidation of the pathogenesis of human AD.
