Abstract

A stress (force) method for finite element analysis using a quadrilateral element based on a hybrid variational principles is reformulated and discussed. The validity of the method is investigated with solving an in-plate bending problem of a cantilever rectangular plate due to vertical force acting along the tip edge. The result shows that the convergence characteristic is well and that the accuracy of the solution of the stress method is higher than a conventional displacement method.
