Abstract

type:Departmental Bulletin Paper

This artcle shows the aim and summary of the author's book entitled A History of French economic thought : from Quesnay to Walras(in Japanese, forthcoming). This book deals with Leon Walras and the French economists:Quesnay, Canard, Saint-Simon, J.B.Say, Dupuit, Cournot and August Walras, and intends to reconsider the history of the French economic thought as a formation process of the idea of organized free competition of Leon Walras in his applied economics. The first section will clarify the author's perspective on the history of French economic thought by comparing it with those of Marx, Schumperter and Hayek. The second section will present a Japanese economist, Juro Tedzuka(1896-1943)'s work on this subject and its social context. He published the first Japanese translation of Walras's Elements in 1933. He died before having completed his research, The author is inspired strongly by his approach. The third section will present a summary of the book by describing the continuity and discontinuty between Walras and the French economists from the persprective already shown.
