数学者・米山國蔵の教育観について A Study on Educational Viewpoints of a Mathematician Kunizo Yoneyama
This paper attempts investigating educational viewpoints and educational activities of a mathematician Kunizo Yoneyama (1877-1968), which have not been almost studied yet. After Yoneyama learned in the higher normal school to become a secondary school teacher, he studied mathematics and became a mathematician who was recognized internationally. At the same time, he was not only engaged in mathematics teaching as a professor of the higher educational institutions, but also was concerned with the teacher training, the incumbent teacher education and so on. And he developed gradually his own educational viewpoints and his teaching methods based on the above educational experiences and his mathematical knowledge. Moreover, he believed the justice of his own teaching methods through seeing mathematics lessons of secondary schools in Germany. Afterwards, he announced his own opinions of mathematics teaching and concrete materials for mathematics instruction at some educational journals. As a result, his teaching methods didn't influence many secondary school teachers by the restriction of the entrance examination system and so on, but it was a fact that his opinions were accepted by many readers before and after 1935 years, when mathematics teaching was considered to be unnecessary by some people.
