抄録
The lutetium sandwich complexes (n=8-16) in the title were synthesized to obtain discotic liquid crystals showing both spontaneous homeotropic alignment and high mobility. Recycling HPLC effectively separated the double-deckers and triple-deckers. The amount of triple-deckers was too short to study their physical properties. The double-deckers show one Col_h, two Cub and one Col_<tet> mesophases for n≦13, and a Col_r mesophase for n≧14 instead of the Col_h mesophase. Interestingly, the Col_<tet> mesophases for n≧10 exhibit spontaneous homeotropic alignment.
