Abstract

Atoms and molecules at surface can be moved by tunneling injection of carriers in scanning tunneling microscopy. We have demonstrated on Ge (001) clean surface that the surface superstructures are reversibly and locally controlled by selecting the sample bias voltage in the STM operation. The hot carriers injected to the surface electronic states induce two fundamental processes, creation and non-local motion of a phase-boundary of the two superstructures.
