Phylogenetic Distribution of Lignan Producing Plants
Search this article
Abstract
Lignans are phenylpropanoid dimmers, where the phenyl-propane units are linked by the central carbon (C_8) of their side chains. The chemical structures of lignans vary substantially in basic carbon frameworks, as do their oxidation levels and substitution patterns. In addition, lignans show considerable diversity in terms of enantiomeric compositions, biosynthesis, and phylogenetic distribution. In this paper, the phylogenetic distribution of plants producing more than 70 typical lignans with a variety of chemical structures are listed based on a data-base search
