Abstract

Power-line communications (PLC) are classified into three applications, i. e., Internet access, home-network, and inter-house communications, and those current situations in Japan are explained in this paper. The experiments of Internet access service by Japanese power utility companies and the activity of HomePlug Powerline Alliance in U. S. A., i. e., high speed PLC using HF frequency band (2M to 30MHz) for home-networking, are introduced. To realize the latter technology in Japan, it is also explained that the deregulation and the solution for the interference to the existing radio stations are needed.
