本研究は, 都市河川とりわけ近代産業発展の舞台となった隅田川とその沿川の産業施設に着目し, これらがやがて衰退・用途転換していく過程において, 河川と産業施設との関係がどのように変化してきたのかについて, 河川に対する表裏の認識という視点から分析することを通じて, 沿川空間のもつ地域環境デザイン上の意義と課題について考察を行うことを目的に実施した.その結果, 産業施設の河川に対する表(産業インフラとして)→裏→表(環境資源として)という認識の変化が明らかとなった.そして, 河川と地域との関係を媒介する場としての産業施設の位置的な重要性が指摘され, 地域の論理やニーズを的確に反映した空間デザインが課題とされた.

The purpose of this study is to discuss about significance for urban landscape design and its subject toward the future, through clarifying the relation and its changes between Sumida River of Tokyo metropolitan area and its river-front area in the changing process of land use, analyzing the changes of recognition to the river. As the result, it was confirmed that the changes of recognition to the river; from industrial infrastructure to environmental resouces and landscape element, and river-front is very important area as the space in which intermediates the reltion between the river and its basin region. So in the future, it is important subject to design a space composition which reflects the needs of basin region.
