Abstract

Using Chinese documents as a base, I will build off of previous research in an examination of the Lian-huan-hua transition, which has yet to receive wide recognition in Japan, and its depiction technique. One of the characteristics of Lian-huan-hua is that it has developed alongside literature. This development has led to a situation where the sentence is valued more than the description. It can be said to possess a strong element of the national language and a high level of education. The depicted illustrations, both monochrome and colored alike, are illustrated in a technique that is exceedingly beautiful. This type of illustration has withstood the ever-changing tides in art, which is a testament to its aesthetic value. This characteristic of Lian-huan-hua can still be seen in present-day Chinese picture-books and could play an important role in any future examination of Chinese picture books.
