Abstract
In this study, we examined the presentation of "Is Zoukei-Asobi (playful art study) necessary for the upper grades in elementary schools?", that was made by Takatomi Yoshida of the Association of Art Education at the 27th Research Conference in Chiba in 2005. We summarized the points of his presentation, and examined it on the basis of previous studies and practices in elementary and junior high schools. The results indicated that points presented by Yoshida about playful art study for the senior children in elementary school were not fundamental problems but operational ones. We concluded that playful art study for the upper grades in elementary schools should not be treated unnecessarily, but is necessary to improve the conditions of art activities such as human, timelike, spacial and informational environments.
