Abstract

Background. Primary lung cancers with a long disease course are generally mucus-producing type adenocarcinoma. Case. This case was a 82-year-old woman. In medical examinations performed in 1996, an indistinct nodule was detected in the left upper lobe by chest CT, but definitive diagnosis could not be obtained by transbronchial biopsy of the lung. In 2002, a node was detected in the same region as that observed in 1996, but definitive diagnosis could not be obtained by detailed examinations. Medical examinations performed in 2004 again indicated a tumor in the same region, and it was diagnosed as pulmonary adenocarcinoma by transbronchial biopsy of the lung. Conclusion. We observed the development of adenocarcinoma over an 8-year period from the condition in which only an indistinct nodule was seen with a solid nodule was recognized.
