Abstract

超音波によって弾性定数や吸収係数を計測することで,価数揺動系やオフセンター局所振動系の電荷揺らぎを観測できる.立方晶系における2つの弾性定数(C_<11>-C_<12>)/2およびC_<44>は,それぞれΓ_3とΓ_5の異なる対称性の電荷揺らぎを観測できる.本稿では筆者らが超音波実験を行ってきた価数揺動物質Yb_4As_3の電荷秩序,Sm3X4(X=Se,Te)の電荷グラスについて解説する.さらに,最近注目を集めているカゴ状化合物におけるオフセンター局所振動のラットリングやトンネリングについても研究の現状を紹介する.

Ultrasonic measurements of elastic constants and attenuation coefficients are employed to detect the charge fluctuation of valence fluctuation and off-center rattling systems, In the present review, we introduce the symmetry properties of the elastic strains associated with the ultrasonic waves. Then, we describe ultrasonic research on the valence fluctuation systems of Yb_4As_3 with charge ordering and of Sm_3X_4(X=Se, Te) with charge glass in emphasizing the group theoretical analysis for charge fluctuations in these systems. The recent progress of the rattling and tunneling of the off-center local oscillator in clathrate compounds R_3Pd_<20>Ge_6 (R=La, Ce) and PrOs_4Sb_<12> is also presented.
