The observations were made on the reproductive behavior of the estuarine pulmonate snail, Ellobium chinense, from April to July 1978 and from July to October 1980. The snails were reared in the laboratory for these two periods and this work was mostly done in the first one of them. In about 130 phenomena observed, most matings took place in only two snails linked parallel with each other, and copulatory chains by three or four snails were observed in few cases. During the mating the transfer of sperms was carried out by the right side snail to the left one in the snails linked parallel respectively. The mating in the field was observed from late June to early August. The rope-like egg ribbons were found on moist mud in the breeding boxes late in July. The mass of egg ribbon resembled a tangle of gelatinous string. Egg capsules linked together by mucoid threads continuous with the capsule wall and were themselves embedded in an egg mass of gelatinous material. Each egg capsule normally contained one fertilized egg.
