本研究の目的は認知症高齢者をケアする上で,看護師がどのような感情を抱きながら関わっているのかを明らかにし,サポートの視点を見出すことである。介護老人保健施設,老人認知症専門病棟,特別養護老人ホームで重度の認知症高齢者をケアする看護師9名を対象に,研究の同意を得た上で,半構成質問紙を用いた面接調査を行った。その結果看護師の感情として,1)「なんでそんなことするの」という怒り,2)認知症高齢者の言動への困惑,3)言動に対する対応への困惑,4)身体症状の判断への自信のなさ,5)自分のケアを評価できない不安,6)自分の思うケアができないジレンマ,7)責任の重さへの不安,8)ケアへの達成感のなさの8つが明らかになった。

The aim of this paper is to report the results of a qualitative study which explored the emotions experienced by nurses caring for the elderly with dementia with a view to providing proper support for such nurses. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews from nine nurses working in Health Service Facilities for Elderly, Dementia Units and Nursing Homes. The nurses' emotions caring for the elderly with dementia were as follows: 1) Anger toward the patients' behaviors, 2) Being at a loss how to cope with the behavior of the dementia patients, 3) Being puzzled over ways to deal with the behavior of the patients, 4) Lack of confidence in judging the symptoms of the patients, 5) Inability to evaluate their own care, 6) Dilemma about providing proper care, 7) Worries about too much responsibility, 8) Lack of sense of achievment.
