Abstract
This paper aims 3-D FEM simulation for fracture behavior of concrete filled steel tube(CFT) in unaxial compression. In this study, bonded and un-bonded CFT were simulated. One difficulty in these simulation is interaction between concrete and steel tube. In general, volumetric change of concrete specimen under unaxial compression is linear until 75〜90% of peak strength, but, after that, nonlinearly expands. These phenomenon is known as dilatancy. To model dilatancy of concrete is important to evaluate properly the interaction. Therefore, cap surface is implemented to concrete material model to control dilatancy. As a result, reasonable simulation can be performed.
