Abstract

報酬は報酬が与えられた行動に対する内発的動機づけを低めるので,報酬を用いた教育は避けるべきである,という考えが,小,中学校の教師や,教職志望の学生の間で広まっているようである。しかしながら,これまでの研究は,内発的動機づけに及ぼす報酬の有害効果は,極めて限定された条件下でしか生じないことを明らかにしている。本稿ではその代表的研究を紹介した上で,いくつかの条件が満たされたとき,報酬は,その報酬が与えられた行動への内発的動機づけを低めるが,かなり特殊な状況でなければ,実際の教育場面でこれらの前提条件が満たされることはないと結論した。Based on seemingly overwhelming empirical evidence of the detrimental effects of reward on intrinsic motivation, the use of reward for teaching has been challenged by schoolteachers and student teachers. Literature on intrinsic motivation reveals, however, that the detrimental effects occur under highly restricted conditions, which can be avoided easily by standard practices in educational settings.
