抄録

フィリピンの言論界でなお影響のある「フィリピン人の価値観」論、この事実上「フィリピン人は人付き合いはいいが身勝手で日和見」「宗教的には表面を飾りつつ腐敗し未熟である」という議論が、カトリック教会から生まれ、その政治社会観に基盤を与えている。その結果教会は、フィリピンの歴史形成と社会構造に大きな影響を与えているにもかかわらず、この社会の外部者のように文化を論評する姿勢を保っており、その矛盾が露呈しても責任転嫁する価値構造から脱しきれていない。

Filipino Values discourse, still influential in the Philippines, describing "Filipino being friendly but selfish and vulnerable to social pressure" and "superficially religious but corrupt and immature" was brought into being mainly from the Catholic Church, and influences its views on the politics and society. Philippine Church, in spite of its historical influence in the creation of Philippine nation, takes a posture of looking and judging the Philippine society from "outside", and when this causes a negative effect it still fails to face squarely the real problem inside the church itself.
