This paper deals with meso- or bathypelagic rare shrimps belonging to the the genus Meningodora, family Oplophoridae. Five species of this genus i.e. M. compsa, M. longisulca, M. marptocheles, M. mollis, and M. vesca were collected from deep water in the western North Pacific, ranging from 139°59.8'E to 158°06.5'E and from 20°48.1'N to 39°51.0'N during 5 research cruises. The biogeography, vertical distribution and some additional notes of these rare species are given herein.

海洋の中層から深層域に分布する遊泳性エビ類のうちヒオドシエビ料(Family Oplophoridae)は世界の海洋に8属が分布する。本科の属のうち,トゲアタマエビ属(Genus Meningodora)は,わずかに6種が主に大西洋から報告されているだけの,極めて小さなグループである。その報告例が極めて限られているため,本属の種の形態,地理分布,生息深度などに関する知見は依然不十分はままである。本論文では西部北太平洋からこれまでに得られた5種,すなわちMeningodora compsa (CHACE,1940),M. longisulca KIKUCHI,1985, M. marptocheles (CHACE,1940), M. mollis SMITH,1882,そしてM. vesca(SMITH,1886)を報告,記載し,その地理分布ならびに分布深度について得られた知見を整理した。
