Abstract

The authors have shown that drawing the spatial distribution of the rainfall index R' by using the observed hourly rainfall data in real time manner is an easy method for knowing the risk of sediment-related disasters by this rainfall situation. This paper shows again the good agreement of the distribution of slope failures during recent sediment disasters in Hiroshima Prefecture with their distribution of rainfall index R'. It has also been pointed out that the regional geological characteristics and the rainfall histories at each region affect the critical value of R' which may trigger slope failures at each region.
