Abstract

The rainfall-induced slope failures are typical engineering problems for unsaturated soils, and unsaturated seepage flow often does a predominant role for unsaturated soil mechanics. Laboratory soil tests to measure the unsaturated soil hydraulic properties and mechanical proper ties such as shear strength and deformation characteristics are very important to solve the engineering problems. These unsaturated soil properties are governed by the degree of saturation and matric suction of unsaturated soils. This report deals with the present status and a few problems related to laboratory soil test methods for the unsaturated soil properties.
