Abstract

The purpose of this study was to review studies which examined communication aimed at maintaining intimate relationships. Much of the previous work has focused on the processes and strategies of initiating and terminating relationships. Although the stages of initiating and terminating relationships are important, people spend more time maintaining relationships than initiating or terminating them (Duck, 1988). Given this argument, researchers have recently begun to investigate communication strategies and routines that function to maintain relationships (Stafford & Canary, 1991). This review focused on studies of relational maintenance strategies discussing future research directions. In addition, other daily communication and research methodology were also examined.国立情報学研究所で電子化したコンテンツを使用している。
