Robert Flaherty's film has long been at the center of controversy, because first, it is ambivalent to objective reality regardless of the documentary form, second, it is said to be propaganda of De Valera's nationalism, third, it is considered to be under influence of the rise of fascism in Europe. This paper has a rethink about the value of the film Man of Aran from three above-cited points of view.
