Automatic Control of Arc Welding (Report VI) : Recognition for Intersection of Two or Three Planes

Abstract

As fundamental research of the shape recognition of a work piece, especially for the recognition of the shapes and positions of the start and end parts of the welding, fillet welding part in the horizontal position and the joint preparation part, bright and dark stripes were projected on the work piece, and, the study was made about the method to recognize their shapes by using a digital picture processing system. Here, the objects were restricted to a three-dimensional object whose two planes perpendicularly intersect each other and a three-dimensional object whose three planes perpendicularly intersect each other, with the purpose to set on the development of a simple and practical algorism which makes possible real time processing. This report is now made about the gist of the newly developed algorism and its application to the recognition of a three-dimensional object.
