Peculiarities of the α-Ti and δ(TiN) Layers Formation in Plasma Nitriding of Titanium : Theoretical Estimation of the Critical Temperature for the δ Layer Growth in the Low-Temperature Region(Physics, Processes, Instruments & Measurements)

Abstract

In the present paper a simplified physical model of the α-Ti and δ(TiN) layers formation is proposed. The calculations were carried out on the basis of the experimental data of other works. Theoretical analysis has been used to determine the critical temperature for the δ layer growth in the low-temperature region. At this temperature the diffusion coefficients of the α and δ layers are equal, i.e. D_α=D_δ. At the intersection point of the D_α-series and the D_δ-series the critical temperature T_<CR> was estimated as 666℃. The predicted intersection point and the critical temperature in the low-temperature region will be determined by experiment in the next report.
