Abstract
In Southeast Asia, many monuments made from stone or brick suffer from the growth of plants and microorganisms on their surfaces. The present study examined the effects of algae on monuments, and proposes a mathematical model for prediction of the growth of algae. In this study, the Great Buddha in Sukhothai (Thailand) was investigated, and the effects of environmental conditions on growth of algae were examined. It was found that prediction of the moisture content of algae is important for prediction of their growth. In addition, a model of the growth of algae incorporating environmental conditions is proposed and validated.
