Abstract

近年の符号化技術の進歩により動画像の圧縮率が向上した反面,遅延時間は増大した.特に地上デジタル放送では地域によっては遅延が4秒ほど発生してしまい深刻な問題となっている.そこで筆者らはテレビ放送への適用を狙い,蓄積用途にも耐える低遅延動画像符号化方式として,B ピクチャ挿入時の遅延低減を可能とする Delayed GDR (DGDR)とランダムアクセスまで可能とする Delayed IDR (DIDR)を提案した.効果報告済みの MPEG-2 に対してイントラ予測,複数参照フレームなど特性に大きく影響する可能性のある改良が施されている H.264 への適用性を明らかにするため,提案手法を JM に実装し,符号化効率を評価した.その結果,従来の GDR に対し,M=3 では,冗長符号化相当の圧縮率低下を伴うのに対し,M=1 の DIDR では高々 5%減程度と同等の圧縮効率が得られることが明らかになった.Recently, the delay time of video coding tends to increase together with the improvement of coding efficiency. Especially, the delay time about four seconds becomes serious problem in digital terrestrial broadcasting. Then, we proposed a delayed IDR (DIDR) with random access capability and a delayed GDR (DGDR) that can provide low delay coding even in the condition of M>1. We implemented the DGDR and DIDR in JM reference software and evaluated the coding efficiency to clarify applicability to H.264 that has several improvements such as the intra prediction and the multiple reference frames to MPEG-2. The result shows that the DIDR of M=1 only has at most 5 percent loss of coding efficiency in comparison with the GDR.
