The conventional passive dynamic absorber reduces the amplitude of the main system to zero when the natural frequency of the absorber corresponds to the excitation frequency. The dynamic absorber produces two resonance peak. In this paper, we propose the control method of a semi-active dynamic absorber to reduce the amplitude of a sinusoidally excited main system to zero over the wide range of the excitation frequency. The proposed controller estimates the excitation frequency by applying adaptive filter in real time. When the excitation frequency varies, the frequency is estimated in real time and control signal is generated according to the estimated frequency. The stiffness is changed so that the natural frequency of the absorber tracks to the varied excitation frequency. As a result, the response amplitude of the main system is kept to zero over the wide range of excitation frequency. Furthermore, the performance of the proposed control method is experimentally discussed.
