Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine relations of the weight, the repetition number and the movement speed to estimate one repetition maximum(1RM). During bench press, the subjects performed five different weights until failure. In addition, speed was measured at each weight, and we examined relations of the weight and the movement speed of each subject. We calculated 1RM(1RMv)from relations of the weight of each subject and the movement speed. The difference between 1RM and 1RMn were examined by the presumed repetition number-of-times method. The relations of the weight and the movement speed showed a significantly high correlation in each subject. Average speed in 1RM of all subjects was 0.2 m/s within 0.24 m/s from 0.16 m/s. Furthermore, the difference of 1RMv and 1RM which was calculated from average speed was less than 6.6kg.
