抄録

In order to enhance the social value of landscape, formation or creation of new landscape has been mainly pursued in the field of landscape architecture or else. In addition, it should be also significant for realization of the cause above to encourage the discovery and popularization of new perspective of value in existing landscape. This property is quite remarkable in "technoscape" which is formed principally with functional or economical reasons, without aesthetic reasons, and it will be the useful example for the quest of the method of discovery and popularization. <BR>This study defines two ways of approach to "technoscape", (1) sign of appreciation of new modern age and (2) new formal interest, and exemplifies the cases of observers' subsequent discovery or interpretation of "technoscape" value after its formation, such as towers of electric power plant in Tokyo, Yokosuka and smokestack for mine industry in Hitachi, Japan. Those phenomena are taken as spontaneous discovery of "technoscape" value by civilians and as cognition of existing landscape as social stock. In the end, we discuss on significance of renovation of existing structures for other use and implementation of events to enlighten people the value of landscape to enhance its social meaning as regional stock.
